Easy ways to keep the little ones busy
Time for shorts, sunglasses and fun. Whether you have one or six kids, summertime always seem to be a tough one.
It’s the middle of the summer holiday and kids tend to get bored easily. Kids are home all day and have nothing to do.
That may sound like a negative thing, but it’s actually good when kids get bored.
That way you’ll know that they’re eager to do anything.
This time of the year we’re blessed with perfect weather. You can do any outdoor activities and even go to the beach. Kids can get very tedious and impatient with you if they have nothing to do. Especially if you are home during the holiday. From running to catch fireflies, walking barefoot on the beach in hot sand to swimming and playing with at the park – the list of things to do is endless.
If you’ve failed in planning summer activities for them, then the following ideas might help.
Visit the library
This might not be one of the most exciting things to do over the summer holiday, but it’ll be beneficial to you and the kids. Libraries are open throughout the holidays. However, they might only open for a certain amount of hours. So check that before planning your trip down there. While there you can get yourself some reading books and let your kids get some as well. You can sit around on the mat and read their favourite stories for them. Make it fun. Let the kids choose their own books. If you choose for them, they might not be interested. This is a win-win combination since visiting the library makes for a fun outing and reading all those books will expand their general knowledge.
Visit your local park
This is one of the easiest ways to get the kids out of the house. Local parks often have fun activities that’ll keep kids busy for the whole day. You just have to find out at your local municipal office whether they have any activities during summer holidays. This is normally free and you can make a family day out of it. If there are no summer activities taking place, don’t let that stop you from going there. You can have a picnic with your kids and do your own activities with them. Or take the dog for a walk and explore the place.
Play some board games
Kids from the 21st century all have smartphones and don’t even know what board games are. It’s time to take those games out of your cupboard and familiarise your kids with them. Board games normally entertain and bring people together. These games are a great way to teach kids skills like teamwork and basic strategy skills. Your kids will probably end up loving them. Some of the popular board games are Monopoly, Scrabble and 30 seconds. Try it out and you’ll create a lot of enthusiasm and excitement in your family.
Install a jungle gym
Kids love getting their hands dirty and this is one of the many ways to keep them busy. Jungle gyms have been around for generations because of their benefits. Getting kids away from their smartphones, tablets and television can be quite a mission. However, you won’t struggle if there’s a climbing frame in your backyard. This will be an area where the kids can exercise and have fun at the same time. You can install one and let the kids help you or you can check online for second-hand jungle gyms. Most children don’t get enough exercise as they should and this will help. You can also let your kids invite their friends over and let them play together. They’ll enjoy every moment of it.
Get dirty with paint
Painting allows kids to express their creativity and have fun at the same time. This’ll keep your kids busy all day. Create a space outside or in your garage where they can mess and let them go wild. Kids normally love this as they can mix different colours and do whatever they want. Painting is a great way for children share their ideas and thoughts. Perhaps you can join and paint with them. That way you can have a look at what they’re doing and spend time with them. Pack old newspapers on the floor for clean up purposes and always keep a bucket of water on the side to wash your hands.
You don’t have to sit at home in front of the TV all summer with your kids. There are a lot more things you can do with your kids. So sit back, relax and go crazy this summer. Go out there and explore with your kids. Make this a memorable summer.
