Cool ways to celebrate spring
Spring has sprung. Time to have some fun. As they say, you can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.
Pull out all the bells and whistles and give this new season the attention it deserves. Shake it up and do something out of the ordinary. Fun-filled and creative.
Be in nature
An early morning or evening walk will add beauty to your day. Go out, explore and revel. Hike along a nature trail, climb a mountain or spend the day in your local park. You have a chockful schedule? No problem. During a lunch break go outside and listen to the orchestra of spring tuning up. Connecting with nature is a wonderful way of stimulating your creativity, reflecting, and getting perspective on what really matters in life.
Take a bird walk
Taking your family on a walk is such an easy activity. As you get your children ready, tell them to watch and listen for birds as they go on their walk. You may want to take along a piece of paper to count the number of birds you see. Point out big birds and little birds, flying birds and sitting birds, birds high in the air and down on the ground. Look at and compare the colors of the birds you see. If the children really enjoyed their bird walk, they may like to learn more about birds when they get back.
Get green fingers and plan a garden
One of the best parts of spring is the arrival of growing season – and the gardening catalogs that come in the mail. Have you planned your garden? If no, not a problem. There are hundreds of gardening books on the market to help you with your planning. What will you be growing in your garden? Vegetables or flowers? Or both? Even if you live in an urban apartment with no outdoor living space, you can have a windowsill garden.
Plan a family picnic lunch
A picnic with your family is a must in spring. Even if it’s too cold to eat outdoors, set up blankets on the living room floor. Pack a few deli sandwiches, finger foods, fresh fruit and salad; accompanied by chilled wine, champagne or soft drinks. You can also cook picnic-like food and prepare decorations for your celebration with the entire family.
Cook something yummy
There are quick and easy recipes for you to try out. Anything with bright, seasonal flavors is a great choice. Kids are often keen to help when it comes to fun ideas. Also, kids are more likely to try new foods when they help make them. It’s a win, win.
Splash in a puddle
This may be one of the most fun ways to celebrate spring. If it happens to be raining in spring, pull on a pair of boots and go splash in a puddle! Doing it will free your spirit and make you feel childlike again… which is a good thing. Wear something washable, put your prim and proper training on the back burner, find a nice, big puddle, go wading and have some fun. Never tried it? What are you waiting for?
Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘put a bounce in your step and smile’. Whatever you choose, having fun and doing the activity together is what’s important. Happy spring!
