All you need to know about licence renewal
Why do we need to renew our license every year? To many it may seem as an unnecessary evil waiting in line at the Traffic Department.
Western Cape Transport and Public Works spokesperson Siphesihle Dube says, it is to: “Ensure that we as the licensing authorities can work better to access all drivers who have vehicles registered with the system and all other people who need to contact the eNatis system for whatever reason.”
Provide residence details
Many may ask the question, “Do I need to provide proof that the vehicle I’m driving is mine? How do I do this when I’m unable to make it for the renewal deadline?” These question are commonly asked by drivers who will be sending someone on their behalf to renew their licence.
The onus is not on you to provide ownership of your used BMW but you do need to provide verification of your ID and address. As the applicant, you need to provide proof of your residential address. You can do this by sending the information with the person who will be applying for the renewal on your behalf. Supply a letter stating you are unable to renew your license at this stage and is sending someone on your behalf. Include their name and identification number in the letter when they submit the application for renewal.
Key aspects you need to keep in mind
The process of renewing your license may remain unchanged for many years to come. But until then, you need bear in mind that your license disc will remain valid for one year only, no exceptions can be made. Be sure your keep your vehicle insurance policies up to date and check that each are lawfully valid. For extra security revise your car insurance policy.
