7 tips for taking care of your skin this summer
It’s summertime and the living is easy, but this also means the season’s harsh sun is beaming down on your skin. Sure, we obsess about our facial skin because it’s the first thing we see when we look in the mirror.
However, the skin on the rest of our bodies not only takes up much more space but it’s equally important. Skin, our protective barrier, needs to be cared for and it doesn’t stop at face wash. You need to care for your skin from head to toe.
Here are a few tips on how to take good care of your skin during the summer season.
Use gentle soap
Does the skin on your body tend to become dry, especially after taking a shower? It’s important to use gentle soap that is free of harsh chemicals for your cleansing routine. If you use products that are too harsh, your skin can become extremely dry and will feel uncomfortable.
Protect skin from the sun
To keep your skin healthy, don’t go outside without protection. Apply sunscreen that is suitable for your skin type, on a regular basis. It’s highly recommended to stay out of the sun during the hottest hours of the day, around noon to about three in the afternoon. Choose daily skincare products that include solar filters. They reduce the harmful effects of the UV rays emitted from the sun, which accelerates skin ageing.
In the shower
A shower is better for your skin than a bath, which tends to dehydrate the skin. Make sure the water is lukewarm, rather than hot. However, if you like taking baths, try to space them out and don’t stay in the tub too long. Always finish off your bathroom routine by applying a moisturiser that’s appropriate for your skin’s hydration needs.
The art of gently patting your skin dry
Before you get out of the shower, rinse your entire body off really well to eliminate all traces of your cleansing product. Then dry your skin by quickly and gently patting your legs, chest, arms and the like with your towel. Do not aggressively rub your skin until it’s dry.
Moisturise your skin daily
Make moisturising a daily habit. After gently patting your skin dry with your towel, use a suitable cream to effectively moisturise your skin. This will help restore the hydrolipidic film that covers your outer layer of skin. There is body cream for dark skin, light skin, sensitive skin, problem skin and so on that is designed for moisturisation. Body creams contain ingredients that are designed to penetrate the skin and keep skin soft and smooth.
Drink a lot of water
For beautiful skin, your body requires sufficient amounts of liquid. Make sure that you drink enough water, approximately eight glasses per day. A glass of water when you wake up, tea with breakfast, mineral water throughout the day and herbal tea at night. This way you can easily meet your daily water requirements.
Eat healthy, well-balanced meals
A healthy, well-balanced diet is not only good for your body but for your skin as well. Each day you should eat at least five fruits and vegetables, which are rich in antioxidants. This will help you maintain beautiful, healthy skin.
If you want your skin to remain supple and healthy no matter how you age, then start to immediately begin taking extra-special care of it.
