5 Fun Projects You Need To Try
When we do not have something, we immediately think we should go out and buy it. However, buying products not only costs more, it also takes away from the enjoyment of creating something new.
Furthermore, it’s a fantastic way to pass the time while you are stuck inside during the cold winter months. With that in mind, why not try your hand at some of these at-home projects:
Make your own bread: Sick and tired of not finding your favourite bread at your local grocery store? Then why not make it yourself? Making your own bread allows you to only put in the ingredients you like and not have it loaded with preservatives and other harmful products. Making your own bread is something you can do with your family and let’s face it, nothing beats a warm slice of homemade bread with butter melted on top.
Start beading: Try your hand at beading; it is a fun way to let loose your creative side. You can make necklaces, bracelets, earrings or simply add beads to a plain t-shirt to create your own unique style. When beading, there are a few important rules that you need to follow in order for it to work properly. The point of beading is to have fun and enjoy yourself.
Making candles: We all love candles – at the dinner table, around the bath or even just to create a different atmosphere. Making your own candles allows you to pick the scent, colour and size, so no more running from shop to shop looking for the right turquoise or scent for your candle. A candle historically means love and warmth, so what better way to spread Africa’s love and warmth, by giving handmade African candles to give to overseas friends and family.
Cushion covers: Instead of buying different cushions every time you change the curtains, wall paint or simply get bored of the old style, why not make cushion covers? Cushion covers are easy to make and allow you to make non-permanent changes to your living area. It is vital that you get the fabric and size right, so be sure to ask for help at your local fabric store and to measure your cushions before cutting. Transform your house and garden by adding new and fresh colours to your cushions, without spending a fortune on new pillows.
Decorative table weights: Are you tired of having to strategically place heavy objects around the table to prevent the table cloth from blowing off? Why not make your own table weights? Instead of buying the boring old metal ones, look for rocks in different shapes, styles and colours rocks instead. All you need to do is place wire around the rocks and add a clip to the wire ‘frame’. This way you will never have to worry about having the table cloth blow off as you remove the dishes.
There is an odd satisfaction and pride that comes from making something from scratch. So next time you are bored at home and unsure of what to do or simply feel inspired to make something, why not try your hand at a craft or two.
