Rocking the Daisies 2015 – What to bring and other info
Rocking the Daisies 2015 key information, what to bring, and how to get there.
Greenpop will be handing out upcycled canisters for your stompies – so make sure to stop by the Green Village to collect yours!
Rinse & reuse!
Bring your own cups, plates, and cutlery, and encourage others to do the same. Can you imagine how little waste there would be if the whole festival participated?
Bring your own water bottles!
Tap water in South Africa is among the cleanest in the world, and Darling is no exception. Bringing your own water bottle to the festival can help both your wallet and the planet. Reusable water bottles are pretty common, but Cape Union Mart is a great place to look – try to buy glass, stainless steel, or BPAfree plastic!
Love your tent!
Instead of throwing away your tent after the festival, or just leaving it behind, reuse it. For more, check out Love your tent.
Use reusable bags to carry things!
Plastic bags are made by the millions and many end up on the ground. They do not biodegrade, and are not sustainable. Instead, use reuseable bags and minimise your carbon footprint.
Chic Mamas will be at Greenpop’s Green Village, and will be handing out reusable shopping bags in exchange for donations to their second-hand shop. Alternatively, pick your bag up beforehand at the Greenpop office (17 Commercial St, Cape Town) – and start using it for your shopping today!
Use solar torches & lamps!
A torch (after your toothbrush) is possibly the worst thing to forget at a festival. But rather than bringing a torch and constantly running out of batteries (and having to spend cash on
new ones) – why not use a solar torch? Better for the environment, and for your wallet.
Stuck on where to find one? Restio Energy Care makes great ones, and are available at Kaap Agri (in Darling, and all over the Western Cape). Find out more at www.restio.co.za!
Compost your leftovers!
Composting is pretty simple, and saves organic material from landfills so that the waste becomes useful. Compost bins will be all over the festival site – look around when you’re at the
food stalls!
Additionally, Reliance Compost will be co-hosting the Green Village, and will have all the tips you need for how to use compost most effectively in your home life. Happy greening!
Use less/reusable napkins!
The average person uses 2,200 napkins a year. If everyone used one less napkin, billions of napkins could be saved from landfills every year. Try bringing just a few cloths that you can wash when you get home!
Share!
Share what you’ve learned; pass the knowledge on! If every person took one step towards being greener, the collective effort could have a phenomenal effect.
Plant Trees!
Want to get your ticket in the greenest way possible but not keen to do Walking the Daisies? Check out Greenpop’s Trees for Tickets campaign and raise the money to plant 10 trees in
exchange for your ticket to RTD.
