Family-friendly adventures in Cape Town
There really is something in Cape Town for everyone. Whether you are at heart a nature-lover, foodie, mall rat or clubber, the Mother City has plenty to offer.
This is also true if you are a family looking for something to do together.
Art Jamming
Have a creative streak? Throw the rules out the window as you get creative with paint. Everyone gets a blank canvas, seat and painting tools, but where it goes from there is up to you. Kids love it but it’s also for the young at heart. With several Art Jamming studios in Cape Town you can find one near you.
Explore caves
Want an underground adventure? The Cape Peninsula Speleological Society hosts cave exploring meets on the first Sunday of each month, where you can learn more about the caves around Cape Town.
HintHunt game
HintHunt is a fun game for groups of three to five people. It is often done as a team building exercise for employees, so it could also be fun for a bonding exercise for families. Held in Woodstock, it is a live escape game where you’re in a room for an hour and have to solve mysteries and puzzles to get out.
The V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront is the most visited tourist spot in the whole of South Africa. If you are a visitor staying in a hotel in Greenpoint you can simply walk over and avoid the parking ticket. There is so much to do here, like ride in the giant Ferris wheel, eat at one of many restaurants, visit the Waterfront market, and shop till you drop!
The Book Lounge
The Book Lounge in Roeland Street has a free story telling session every Saturday at 11:00. It is a great way to occupy your three to eight year olds, while you sit downstairs and enjoy a coffee or browse their book selection.
Go karting
If you kids want something with a bit more adrenalin, then you can take them go karting at Kenilworth Karting. This makes for some playful competition between siblings or even between the kids and parents.
City Sightseeing Bus tours
Everyone in Cape Town is familiar with the sight of the large, double decker red City Sightseeing Buses. The ride itself is enjoyable, but you can also hop on and off and enjoy various points of interest. Children also get a free activity pack with a colouring-in book and crayons which helps keep them occupied.
These are just a few of the many places and activities sure to enthrall your children. The best thing about them is that you can enjoy these activities with them as well. It really is fun for the whole family!
