Dinner and a show in Cape Town
Capetonians are extremely fortunate when it comes to entertainment. Cape Town is filled with endless options for wining and dining. An increasingly popular trend is combining dinner and a show. More and more options are available. We look at what’s showing.
The Fugard
Cabaret is on until June 13 at this hidden gem of a city centre theatre. Cabaret is the story of a performer at a Berlin nightclub and is essential viewing for any theatre aficionado. There is a ground floor bar and a rooftop terrace which is opened if the weather plays along. A number of restaurants are in close proximity for anyone feeling peckish before or after the show.
The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel
The spectacular Mount Nelson is playing host to the play, The Summer of 1946. On every Tuesday in the Planet Restaurant until June 9, it is a new play by Alexander McCall Smith of No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency fame. The feel-good play is accompanied by sparkling wine and canapes to start and a three-course meal.
The Theatre at the Rockwell
Original production SHIZA iKapa “The Heat of Cape Town” is on until July 31 at this well-known hotel in Green Point. The show pulsates with the diverse cultures and sounds of Cape characters. A three-course dinner of local and traditional flavours is served. The show is truly a celebration of local food, song and dance.
Stardust
The home of the singing waiter, you’ll be blown away as the people singing and dancing bring your food. The wait staff are seriously talented and will soon have you joining in as you enjoy your dinner.
Theatre on the Bay
The Little Shop Of Horrors is on for another three weeks at this Camps Bay institution. The well-known story of a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a vicious plant which feeds off human blood is not to be missed. The show has been well reviewed as “An absolute blast” and “Highly recommended”. Upstairs is the Sidedish Theatre Bistro which serves a wide menu of options.
