The Biggest Blacks Only Comedy Show in Cape Town
‘Blacks Only – comedy showcase at GrandWest was probably one of the best comedy showcases I have ever attended.’
– Robyn Cohen (Argus, Cape Times)
For the past 11 years, ‘Blacks Only Comedy Show,’ has been at the forefront of comedy events in South Africa. The second instalment for the year was nothing short of thrilling; with so many comedy shows in South Africa of late, you need to be either the best at what you do or find your niche; and quite frankly Blacks Only has both.
David Kau took to the stage which saw the first half hour of the show jam-packed with excitement; from a member of the ‘EFF’ crashing the party to ‘Helen Zille’ bursting in and demanding a name change that would be more in favour of ‘equality.’
The crowd roared with laughter and the event was a hit with the Cape Town crowd. All the comedians on the bill put on a high energy show, laced with intensity and perfectly timed punch lines. The audience was welcomed in with good tunes delivered by DJ Franky. The line-up included only the best in comedy in the country at the moment with; Mumz kicking off the show, followed by the Kagiso KG Comic and Cape Town native, Schalk Bezuidenhout both had the crowd guffawing. The extremely animated Tol Ass Mo kept the spectators in stitches.
The second half of the show saw the young, Loyiso Madinga delivering a flawless set; followed by the youtube heavy-weight, Skhumba Hlophe. Tapelo ‘Tips’ Seemise brought the evening to a close, leaving people giggling as they left the venue. Co-founder and emcee of the show David Kau, delivered one of his best sets to date that blew the roof off of Grand Arena. The concept started years ago to provide a platform for black comedians to develop grow and it has definitely come a long way!
The first two volumes of the show this year have been nothing short of spectacular with recent show at GrandWest Casino on the 9th of May being the biggest ‘Blacks Only,’ show to date in Cape Town.
The third show for the year will be returning to the home of, ‘Blacks Only,’ Emperors Palace on Saturday, 30th May 2015.
Comedians that have been added to the bill already include;
Trevor Gumbi, Skhumba Hlophe, Thapelo ‘Tips’ Seemise, Muzi Dlamini, Mashabela Galane, Schalk Bezuidenhout and more.
