Hot Happenings at The Ballito Pro Shisanyama Cook-off
Newly opened Verulam Restaurant owners prove the best Shisanyama Chefs on the coast, with Ballito local pair from Loret’s Kitchen coming in close behind.
Business Partners and co-chefs in the recently opened African Restaurant in Verulam, The Zulu Pot Lounge, Zandile Miseka and Zulo Maja took first prize at the annual Ballito Pro Lifestyle Event held at Williard Beach.
The pair walked off with a R 5000 cheque which will go into their newly opened restaurant and a bundle of sponsored prizes to the event. The Big Green Egg provided the kamado-style grill cookers for the competition.
Ballito local duo, Loret de Musso of Loret’s Kitchen with her cooking cohort David Muller took second place with a R 3000 cash cheque and prizes. Muller and de Musso threw their passion into the event, dressing to African theme to get in to mood.
“We spent the day in the township, visiting the ‘Rrrreal Deal’,” de Musso said in her thick Afrikaans accent, “we wanted to make our Shisanyama as authentic as possible even though, clearly, we come from a different cultural background!
