Ever Wished for a Personal Chef? Local Supermarket Provides.
A ‘Foodie’ is easy to spot. Their passion for food oozes from them in a mouthwatering flood of culinary offering and eager tips bounce from their lips. Jason Turner is such a man, and bringing gourmet delights to the local Tiffany’s Spar Deli…
He seems to know shoppers by name. If not their name, he certainly knows what they would like and provides it with enthusiasm. Jason Turner is a gourmet change agent, and has been wielding his craft behind the counters of the Tiffany’s Spar Delicatessen for five months now.
“I have my regular customers and we know exactly what they are looking for,” he shares. “Some select their meat cuts and our kitchen will happily cook it for them as they want – free of charge. Others pop in just before closing for a take-home ready cooked meal.”
The ready meals now boast some twenty dishes to choose from. Turner has added a sophisticated twist on the offering, and incorporates more exotic meats such as Ostrich. A man-sized dinner should cost less than R 40.
An innovative passion has been the incorporation of a Saturday morning Food Demo. Partnering with various suppliers, Turner arranges a culinary showcase for Saturday morning shoppers.
A recent event used a selection of Oscar’s Deli Meats which were prepared by the kitchen chefs and paired with products available in-store to share taste ideas with shoppers.
Turner trained at Kwazini House under food critic Sonja Davis and has yielded his magic at various Spar stores in Durban. The Saturday morning Foodie Showcase is his delightful way of training his chef’s in new dishes and sharing his passion with his customers. A forthcoming Saturday program will include a Sushi Making demonstration.
